John grew up in the suburbs of Maryland outside Washington, D.C. and graduated from Haverford College in 1992 with a B.A. in Economics and with a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1995.

Prior to founding Cochran + Kang LLP, John was previously associated with some of the top national and regional law firms such as Gilchrist & Rutter and Manatt Phelps & Phillips LLP in Los Angeles, Graham & James LLP in San Francisco (currently known as Squire Sanders & Dempsey), and Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth in Newport Beach.

John’s practice focuses on commercial real estate and business transactions, particularly in acquisition and disposition, development, financing and leasing of commercial buildings, including negotiation and preparation of purchase and sale agreements; ground leases and easements; office and retail leases; consulting and management agreements; CC&Rs; architectural and engineering agreements; construction contracts; and telecommunications access and service agreements.

John also advises various entities and negotiates, structures and documents corporate transactions, limited partnership and limited liability company operating agreements, joint venture agreements, development and management agreements, and consulting agreements; real estate loans, including securitized debt; agreements for retail, office and hotel projects; stock and asset purchase agreements; investment offerings; confidentiality and fee agreements; and wills and trusts.
